Notes On Interpretation Of BCR Files

CULTGROUP
Stands for Cultivar Group (which replaces grex) which covers plants that look alike irrespective of parentage.
GENUS
The current status as accepted by the Marie Selby Bromeliad Identification Center [BIC].
NAME
(Of cultivar) Not in single quotes because this was not used in the 1998 printed BCR because of sorting problems.
HYBRIDIZER
Name and initials. Name and initials AND an asterisk denotes a person naming the Cultivar if different from hybridist.
DATE
The date hybrid was made as near as possible.
REMARKS
From 2000 on it will contain remarks only. In the printed BCR 1998 this contained parentage to assist in the printing of the BCR in a smaller size and because of Computer programming problems. However, parentage was also captured under SEEDPRNT and POLLPRNT and there was no cross check. The reference to 'see other cv.s' will also play a minor role from 2000 because this has a link to the old grex philosophy.
REFERENCE
Shows where further information can be found.
CULTGREX
G = grex name under the old system, C = Cultivar name under the new system S = Sport, ? = If in doubt
TAXON RANK
B = Bigeneric, H = Hybrid, S = Species, ? = If in doubt
REGISTERED
Registration forms have been lodged.
BSIREGNO
A control number that bears no relationship with the number of Cultivars on file.
BSIREGDATE
Date of registration with BSI.
PATENTED
A warning that a patent applies for this Cultivar.
SEEDPRNT
Seed parent: (a) If a species, the word starts in lower case. If a Cultivar, it starts with single quotes and a Capital letter. (b) As known to the hybridist. Prior to 2000 updating to the current views was attempted but assumptions in these cases could well be wrong. For example. Neoregelia fosteriana used by Foster probably was not a Neoregelia fosteriana OR may have been a natural hybrid itself! These examples are endless. Queries will be covered in the REMARKS section from 2000.
POLLPRNT
Pollen parent - Same as for SEEDPRNT.
MODIFYDATE
Shows when records were modified. Could be a typographical correction but mainly justifiable amendments.
CREATIONDATE
When added to the records.
Interpretation Of Other Words Used

PATENT
Under USA patent laws the patent follows all asexual reproduction including "Sports". It is broken by seed raising.
SIZE
This is very variable because of culture but as a rule of thumb we are using the following:
Small - to 15cm high or wide
Medium - 15cm to 50cm high or wide
Large - over 50cm high or wide.
SPORT
A visible asexual mutation.
