GENERAL INFO
We, the BSI and the Bromeliad Society of Greater Chicago, hope to see you in
Chicago for the Sixteenth WBC.
The location has been chosen and a cost negotiated similar to that in St.
Petersburg. The hotel is the Westin O'Hare located in Rosemont within spitting
distance of the airport. The rooms are soundproofed and you don't hear the
planes (stayed there and checked it out).
For those who like a few munchies in their room there is a small strip mall
next door including a liquor store and I think a McDonalds. There is a large
grocery store (Dominicks) within 3 blocks.
There is a train station in walking distance for traveling to downtown Chicago.
None of the tours are finalized at this time, but some of those being studied
are gardens Chicago Botanical Garden, Lincoln Park Conservatory and Zoo, Oak
Park Conservatory, museums etc. Science and Industry, Field Museum, Art Museum,
Aquarium, Navy Pier, Sears Building. There are many things to see in Chicago.
Also lots of shopping malls.
Chicago has few sources of Bromeliads, Jamaican Gardens, Oak Hill Gardens,
better buy your bromeliads at the conference. There are a couple good places
for cactus and succulents, Geimer's and Ted's Greenhouse.
Orchid lovers will find lovely specimens at Oak Hill Gardens, Hauserman's,
EFG and several other nurseries.
Chicago is a beautiful city, the natives are warm and friendly and eager to
show you a wonderful time.
