image 67(3)185-188.jpg is missing! Notes on the Flowering Behavior of Orthophytum sucrei
    Alan Herndon
While working on the flowering behavior of Sincoraea heleniceae (Herndon 2018), a number of other Sincoraea species and a plant of Orthophytym sucrei were found in late bud and incorporated into an expanded study. Orthophytum sucrei was a perfect subject for an introductory study of the disjunctum complex of Orthophytum because it has a simple spike with relatively few flowers (Herndon 2016). This turned out to be a preliminary study because the behavior of flowers differed so greatly from that observed in Sincoraea heleniceae. It took some days before I could recognize when a flower was open. It took even longer before I could recognize when a flower was 'closed'.
