Genus: GregbrowniaGregbrownia is a genus of the subfamily Tillandsioideae. It is named for American botanist Gregory K. Brown, who was part of the collaborative multi-locus DNA sequence phylogeny and morphology study and taxonomic revision of the Tillandsioideae subfamily. (Barfuss et al. 2016. Phytotaxa 279(1): 001-097). Formerly part of the genus Mezobromelia, species are endemic to forested areas in Ecuador and Peru, where they grow both as epiphytes and terrestrials.Number of accepted species in this genus is 4 (source: species counts in the Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads). |
