Genus: Greigia

Greigia is a genus of the subfamily Bromelioideae. It is native to Latin America from Mexico to Chile. The genus is named in honour of Major General Samuel Alexjewitsch Greig, president of the Russian Horticultural Society in 1865. Greigia are terrestrials and are unique among bromeliads in that they do not die after flowering, they continue to bloom every year from the same rosette.

Number of accepted species in this genus is 36 (source: species counts in the Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads).
