Genus: NeoregeliaNeoregelia is a genus of the subfamily Bromelioideae. They are native to South American rainforests and coastal regions, mainly in eastern and southeastern Brazil in the Atlantic forest regions where they grow as epiphytes and terrestrials. The genus name is for Eduard August von Regel, Director of St. Petersburg Botanic Gardens in Russia (1815-1892).Number of accepted species in this genus is 113 (source: species counts in the Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads). |
